A former military top brass will be assisting Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong to “defend” his Marine Parade GRC stronghold in the coming General Election.
In a post on the Marine Parade PAP branch’s Facebook page, SM Goh said that the People’s Action Party team will usher in one of the two former military top brass – outgoing army chief 41 year-old Major-General Chan Chun Sing and Brigadier-General Tan Chuan Jin, as a new candidate in Marine Parade GRC.
According to the posting, MP Dr Ong Seh Hong will be retiring from politics to make way for one of the two outgoing Generals to understudy SM Goh.
Quoting party sources, the Straits Times had earlier reported that the likely new candidate is 42 year-old Brigadier-General Tan Chuan Jin who will be introduced to residents this weekend.
SM Goh had asked Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to send him a ’strong candidate who has the potential to be part of the fourth-generation core team.’
Apparently SM Goh has gotten his wish with the “backing of the entire army”, literally.
