Giants closer Brian Wilson did the honors at Friday’s home opener by raising San Francisco’s first World Series championship flag over right field at AT&T Park.

The flag was passed first by Willie Mays, and then to each player standing in a line. Wilson was last to get it, and he then ran from the dugout to right field, where he climbed into the bleachers and on to a platform where the flag was raised.
Before the raising, he had kind words for San Francisco for the opening day crowd, calling them 2010’s “last fans standing.”
“We won this as a team,” Wilson said. “We won this as a community.”
Wilson also gave the ball he threw in the last pitch of the 2010 World Series against the Texas Rangers to a fan who has been a season-ticket holder since 1958.
“Here’s the ball, thank you,” Wilson said, followed by a pregnant pause. “You’re welcome.”
